Wilcox’s history

Wilcox sits about 41 kilometres south of Regina, in the Rural Municipality of Bratt's Lake No. 129. Its post office opened in 1902, when the area was part of the Provisional District of Assiniboia West in the North West Territories. Saskatchewan became a province in 1905, and Wilcox incorporated as a village on April 20, 1907.

Early families in the district were served by a one-room schoolhouse, Wilcox School District #1633.

Today Wilcox is best known as the home of the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, a boarding school for students in grades 9 to 12. Father Athol Murray founded Notre Dame College of the Prairies in 1919. The village was long home to the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, until the team relocated to Warman in 2025 and became the Warman Wolverines. The 1980 film The Hounds of Notre Dame was shot in the village. Wilcox has also produced several notable people, including NHL players Nick and Don Metz and Jaden Schwartz, and politician Ralph Goodale.
